The county government of Nandi has received the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines(AstraZeneca) from the National government and vaccination of health workers and other front line workers is ongoing at Kapsabet county referral Hospital.
Speaking at the facility during the official reception of the vaccines, CEC for Health Nandi Ruth Koech said the vaccines are a hundred percent secure for human beings thus urged the people of Nandi not to be in fear.
“Today we have received over six thousand doses of the vaccines and we are giving the first priority to health workers, front line workers and teachers, “Koech said.
The CEC added that the security personnel, the vulnerable and those serving in the hospitality sector will be also given the first priority followed by the elderly and people with existing health conditions.
She revealed that the first phase of the vaccines will run until 30th June this year so as to pave way for the second phase to commence thereafter, urging Nandi residents to avoid fear and accept to be immunized against Covid-19 disease for their own health safety.
“Don’t fear, the vaccines are safe for human life.” She insisted.
Top health officials in Nandi led by the county director of health Dr. David Bungei and Kapsabet and Nandihills medical superintendent Dr. Kemboi and Dr. Kangor led the health workers in receiving the Covid-19 vaccination.
Kenya received 1.02 million doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday last week at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, as the first consignment. The vaccines were transported by UNICEF as part of the COVAX facility, which aims to provide equitable access to vaccines for all countries around the world.
