Nandi County is hosting a regional scouts competition, comprising scouts from eight Counties from the North Rift. The competition which starts on Wednesday will cover a whole four days, will take place at Kapsabet showground and will be officially opened by Sports and Youth Affairs CEC Elly Kurgat.
Speaking to West Media in his office, Sports and Youth Affairs Chief Officer Nelson Ligaga said there is support from the County government for the scouts. He said they are ready to support them, given that the scouts have always taken part in constructive activities like taking part in environmental conservation initiatives, most notably, planting three hundred tree seedlings at Nandi Primaty school recently in a tree planting exercise.
Moreover, Nandi scouts commissioner Mrs Pauline Yego said everything is in place, and the comepitiors from Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Baringo, Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi and Samburu Counties will be present. She said the competition is used as a platform to select best teams which will compete at the national and regional levels, and she urged the scouts from Nandi to excel.
She noted the importance of joining scout groups, saying not only is peace and harmony promoted, but also discipline is instilled and this enables the young people to be moulded responsibly as they mature.
