Nandi residents have decried the lack of drugs in health facilities across Nandi and have sought answers from the County administration. Residents who spoke to West FM revealed that the health facilities lack basic drugs and they are always told to buy the drugs from pharmacies. They said they wonder why there are no drugs in hospitals and dispensaries yet huge sums of money have always been set aside for the health docket, alleging Kshs 181 as part of the supplementary budget. They said Health CEC Ruth Koech should address the issue, given that most of the patients are suffering and don’t have money to buy the drugs.
Nandi Health CEC Ruth Koech revealed that the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) had delayed to supply a new consignment of drugs, urging the residents to be patient as the matter is being resolved. She said for now, the County government has been purchasing emergency drugs because emergency cases cannot be postponed. The health officer also revealed that the County has taken up the home based care treatment for Covid-19 patients.
