Nandi County Commissioner Mr Harman Shambi has warned the residents against use of fake face masks being traded by the unscrupulous traders within Kapsabet town urging them to be extra vigilant.
Shambi decried high trading of fake face masks in the region which is conducted by unscrupulous traders coning the public of their money ordering all the security apparatus to conduct regular crack downs in all corners of Nandi to bring to book the suspected culprits.
Speaking during the health stakeholders forum held in Nandi that brought together health officials, county government of Nandi leaders and security personnel, Shambi cited that members of the public have been lured into purchase of such fake face masks without realizing because they don’t consider their health safety but to evade confrontation with the police asking them to be serious and put on the correct safe masks for their safety.
“I have noted that majority of the public especially within Kapsabet town are wearing masks not to cater for their safety but only to avoid being caught up by the security thus buy fake masks at a cheaper price without regarding their safety, ” Shambi added.
The Commissioner decried Covid-19 flouting rules by the public in the region which has put many lives to risks due to reported cases of Delta Indian variant in Nandi as he ordered the security apparatus, chiefs and their assistants to ensure Covid-19 protocols containment measures are followed to the latter end up to the grass root.
He banned all the social gatherings like funerals, weddings and harambees for thirty days, warning against possible lockdown if residents will continue flouting or ignoring the protocols.
Nandi has lost over fifty people due to Delta variant Covid-19 therefore urged the public to be cautious and vigilant for their safety.
