Nandi woman representative Tecla Tum has urged parents from across Nandi to exercise good and responsible parenting to their children especially for the girl child. Tum cited that teenage pregnancies are still a concern and called upon parents to take up their parenting responsibility by taking good care of their girls so as to keep them safe from early pregnancies.
Speaking during the international day of the girl child, she affirmed that many girls from Nandi were impregnated during the Covid-19 as they stayed home, adding that the perpetrators should be dealt with according to the law. “Nandi County to date has over 4,000 teenage pregnancy cases,” she said. She noted that the girl child faces many challenges apart from teenage pregnancies, including child abuse, early forced marriages, and parents should play their role to ensure these vices are cut off.
