Women in Nandi have strongly condemned the rampant rape and defilement cases in the region and have urged Law Courts to impose stiff penalties against defilement criminals. Led By Nandi County Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot, the County’s woman representative Dr. Tecla Tum, female MCAs along with other women from the County, they’ve strongly condemned the beastly acts inflicted on younger ladies, with some killed by the perpetrators.
The clarion call comes a few days after demos in Kapsabet and Nandi hills in solidarity to protest the defilement cases that have increased in the region. They also protested the release of an assistant chief who is alleged to have defiled a twelve-year-old class six girl in Tindiret Sub County. Last week, the Kapsabet Law Court released the assistant chief on a bond of Kshs 200,000 after pleading guilty of the offence, a situation which angered Nandi women, added to the fact that the victim was still recuperating from the injuries inflicted.
Last month, a class seven girl in Chomisia village, Kaptel/Kamoiywo ward was defiled and murdered by unknown gangsters who haven’t been apprehended so far, while in Nandi Hills, the body of a middle-aged woman who was raped was found in a bush. The cases have raised a lot of eyebrows and residents haven’t been able to come to terms with the defilement incidents.
