Leaders from Western Kenya, who are part of the committee in charge of coming up with recommendations on selecting the NASA flagbearer, have been challenged to ensure they push for a presidential candidate from the region.
Lawyer Nickson Sifuna, who is vying for the Tongaren parliamentary seat through the ANC ticket, said it’s high time the three legislators in the committee, who are Sakwa Bunyasi of Nambale, Dr. Chris Wamalwa of Kiminini and Dr. Eseli Simiyu of Tongaren, ensure they fight for a Luhyia candidate.
He disclosed that having two Luhya principals in the NASA-Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula-should be an advantage for either of them to be chosen as the flagbearer since they have the capability to be the president of this country.
“We have played second fiddle as Luhyas for a long time and the legislators should, therefore, ensure that either Musalia or Wetangula should be chosen as the flagbearer or else the people of Western Kenya will be disillusioned,” he said.
Sifuna further called for a speedy naming of the NASA flagbearer saying their supporters on the ground are running out of patience and may be swayed to support other political outfits during this campaign period saying it will be to their disadvantage.
He was speaking during the finals of a football tournament he had sponsored at Sirakaru and called upon residents of Tongaren Sub County to maintain peace during this period of nominations as well as in the campaigns ahead of the general election.
“The voting exercise will only take a day, but our country will remain forever so let us maintain peace and the youth should not be used by politicians who have their own selfish interests to cause chaos in political rallies,” he added.
He expressed optimism that he will be elected as the next MP for Tongaren constituency saying the current MP Dr. Eseli Simiyu has served to his full capacity and it is high time he passes the mantle to him to be able to serve the residents of Tongaren.
