NASA leader Raila Odinga has castigated the government for persisting in their siege against Nairobi businessman Jimi Wanjigi, and has termed the government as a rogue state, following their conduct after the Supreme Court’s verdict. “This kind of behavior shows that the state has gone rogue. It started immediately after the Supreme Court’s ruling, the President raged against the judiciary and called them crooks, saying they had done a judicial coup,” said Raila. He said the President showed a contempt of court.
The NASA leader said the President’s subordinates will follow the same trail and what will follow will be a complete breakdown of law and order in the society. Speaking at Jimi Wanjigi’s residence in Muthaiga, accompanied by other opposition leaders and Wanjigi himself together with his family, Raila said even the police officers have crossed the line. “That’s why we have rogue police officers, who can shoot children with live bullets. In civilized societies, police use rubber bullets, but in Kenya, they shoot directly at crowds with live bullets meaning they shoot to kill, and they are hired thugs,” he reiterated.
He further said the will of the people is unstoppable, and that the changes which have come to the country before haven’t come easy, “They even haven’t come through the parliament, instead, the parliament has been used to create a dictatorship in the country,” he said, adding that the amendments introduced in the parliament in the sixties and seventies have led to the formation of a rogue state.
On his part, Bungoma Senator and NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula said police officers are not out to serve Kenyans anymore and have gone against the new constitution, which transformed their mandate from using force to being a police service. “The Inspector General doesn’t seem to have changed from force to service,” he said. He affirmed that Kenyans are very alert when it comes to their rights and that when a regime starts crumbling they start noting enemies in every direction.
Wetangula said the government can unleash terror on Kenyans but it can’t suppress every Kenyan, “In every ash, a phoenix always arises and that’s the will of the people of Kenya. We tell Jubilee that Kenya belongs to Kenyans and not for a few people,” he said.
