NASA will proceed with the swearing in of opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, contrary to some reports. While addressing the press at Okoa Kenya, NASA chief strategist David Ndii said arrangements are still underway, “We assure supporters that the swearing in as announced is still on and arrangements are in place to make it the most significant event organized by citizens for themselves to secure the rights and dignity of the people,” he said.
Ndii said the swearing-in will be a reclamation of the NASA presidential victory in the August 2017 polls, adding that the annulment of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win by the Supreme Court, “If Uhuru Kenyatta’s election was null and void, then that election was won by someone else, and that is Raila Odinga,” he said. He added that Jubilee is presiding over an illegitimate Presidency, “Jubilee went on to do a sham election instead of the election ordered by the Supreme Court and we consider it a coup against the people of Kenya. Jubilee is exercising an illegitimate Presidency, and the swearing in will return power to the people who refuse to take part in that election,” he said.
However, Ndii insisted the planned swearing-in isn’t a hindrance to dialogue, given that the nation is deeply divided between two irreconcilable political value, authoritarian rule and democracy. “They are in fact leaders who have said severally that a benevolent dictatorship is preferable to democracy,” he said, adding that the way forward is conversation sooner rather than later. Criticizing the government, he said Jubilee is unable to form the government, and have instead opted to spread lies, “They are spreading misinformation that they’re failing to form the government because NASA wants a share of the government. We state categorically that we aren’t interested in power-sharing with Jubilee,” he affirmed.
