The nationwide curfew in place from 7pm to 5am has been extended for a further 21 days and will be in effect till 6th January in a bid to tackle the spread of the Coronavirus. The cessation of movement into and out of Nairobi Metropolitan area, Kilifi, Kwale, Mandera and Mombasa Counties has also been extended and will be in effect until June 6th.
While issuing the directives, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the government will take every measure to protect the lives of Kenyans from the Covid-19 pandemic and to plan for the recovery of the economy.
He said the National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus has looked closely at other reopening processes around the world and have noted a spike in new Covid-19 infections in some places, notably Ghana, Singapore and Germany, although they had initially. “I am anxious as all of you to get back to building this country. However we will only be able to do this the sooner we sharply suppress the growth of infections,” he said.
