NCIC Chairman urges parties to stop intimidating the Supreme Court

The chairman of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Francis Ole Kaparo has urged political parties to stop threatening the court ahead of its ruling on the presidential elections petition filed by NASA against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). “As we wait for the court verdict, we urge all the political parties to stop intimidating the Supreme Court. We are therefore asking Kenyans to wait patiently and calmly for the outcome,” he said.

The NCIC chairman also applauded the move by political parties to seek redress in court as per article 140 of the Constitution that requires a person who questions the validity of the presidential elections to petition The Supreme Court for redress.

He requested all the political parties to engage in a fair process of nominations for members of parliament, senate, and MCAs. “The commission is calling upon all political parties to adhere to article 56 of the Constitution by reaching out to the minorities and disadvantaged groups to ensure inclusivity and also gender equality in the process of nominations,” he said.

He said that the commission is satisfied with the peaceful transition in many Counties where the swearing in of governors has taken place and reminded the governors to follow the law in the restructuring of the county public service. He, however, condemned the newly elected governors who have sacked public service officers who have been serving due to their political alignment.

Kaparo further urged the national government to embrace inclusivity as it embarks on various appointments to operationalize the National Executive after a President has been sworn in office. He called on all Kenyans to uphold peace and work together to achieve a cohesive, integrated and harmonious Kenyan Society.
