In a groundbreaking move to bolster women’s health in Embu County, the Beyond Zero Initiative, in collaboration with the County Government of Embu, has launched an ambitious cervical cancer program at Kairuri Health Centre in Manyatta Sub County. This transformative initiative is set to make significant strides in the fight against cervical cancer, particularly benefiting women in rural and underserved communities.
The launch event, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Beyond Zero and the County Government of Embu, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and community leaders. The new program will offer free cervical screening services, aiming to remove barriers to healthcare access and reduce the impact of cervical cancer in the region.
Beyond Zero Technical Advisor Jane Kiragu emphasized the organization’s commitment to women’s and children’s health. “Since our inception in 2013, maternal and child health has been at the core of our mission. This new program is a testament to our ongoing dedication to investing in women and girls’ health, complementing national and county health strategies and fostering inclusive solutions.”
The initiative also includes a robust educational campaign to raise awareness about the importance of regular cervical cancer screening and available treatment options. Early detection is crucial, as cervical cancer is highly treatable when caught early.
During the launch, Kiragu praised the tireless efforts of healthcare workers, including Community Health Promoters (CHPs), for their dedication and impactful service delivery.
Embu County Deputy Governor Justus Kinyua Mugo expressed enthusiasm for the program, stating, “This program is a significant advancement in our healthcare efforts. We are deeply grateful to Beyond Zero for their partnership and are excited to see the positive changes it will bring to our communities.”
County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Health, Jamal Runyenje, highlighted the importance of collaboration. He noted that the program will enhance the capabilities of healthcare providers through increased mentorship, sensitization, and outreach efforts.
As this vital program begins, it promises to bring hope and improved health outcomes to countless women in Embu County, reinforcing the collective commitment to advancing healthcare and saving lives.
Since 2013, the Beyond Zero Initiative has been at the forefront of improving maternal and child health in Kenya through innovative programs and strategic partnerships.
