The fourth edition of Chapa Dimba na Safaricom fourth was concluded on Sunday 14th April as Nyanza region teams Obunga FC and Plateau Queens well known as Nyakach Girls were crowned the national champions in the finals that were played on at the Jomo Kenyatta international stadium Kisumu.
Heroic two penalty saves from William Odek the Obunga Fc goalkeeper in a match played in a fully packed Jomo Kenyatta stadium secured their victory to become the champions for the first time at the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom in the men’s category against Uasin Gishu based side PASC Langa in a 4-2 win
A deflection from Dennis Okono of PASC Langa secured the Obunga Fc their first goal in the sixth minute of the game. However, in the 76th minute the Rift Valley champions through Alex Kamadi levelised the scores from an error caused by William Odek, Obunga’s goalkeeper.
The 1-1 draw led to a penalty shoot-out after regular time.
Obunga Fc head coach Evans Oketch who spoke to West Fm after being crowned champions thanked Safaricom PLC for coming up with this initiative that would see the youth grow their talents promising to win more trophies with his side
“Firstly, I want to express my gratitude to God for our victory today and for emerging as the national champions. Competing in this tournament for the first time and clinching the national trophy was no mean achievement. It was a highly intense and challenging game, especially with a big number of fans. I extend heartfelt thanks to Safaricom for organizing such an incredible tournament, and I am immensely grateful to my team and our supporters for believing in us,” said Evans Oketc, the head coach at Obunga FC
In the women’s category a 4-nil win over Laikipia based side Barcelona Ladies secured Plateau Queens the second time champions for Chapa Dimba na Safaricom after clinching their win in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom first edition
The 6th minute into the game from Emily Moranga opened their scoring spree for plateau Queens Nyakach girls. A minute into the second half the Nyanza region champions got the second goal after Swaum Masungo’s header was diverted by Barcelona’s Pauline Pierae. In the 56th minute Maureen Atieno raised the roaring crowd on their feet by netting in the 3rd goal. The champions sealed their victory by scoring the fourth goal just two minutes before the final whistle.
Plateau Queens Head coach Chrispine Odindo speaking to West Fm said they were technically prepared for this game and winning for the second time gives them morale to continue nurturing the young talents

Bungoma based Brenda girls representing Western region failed to reach the finals after suffering a humiliating 5-1 defeat in the hands of Plateau Queens in their semi-finals as the third edition champions Wiyeta girls from West Pokot of Rift Valley region were edged out by Barcelona Ladies from Laikipia of Central region who made to the finals for the first time after failing three times since the inaugural Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament
Both Obunga Fc and Plateau Queens the national champions bagged ksh 1 million each while runners up PASC Langa and Barcelona ladies pocketed half a million each among other prizes from Safaricom plc
The four semi finalists Ebwali Boys, Bandari Youth FC, Brenda Girls, and Wiyeta Girls also walked home with KES 250,000 each
