Mumias east Member of Parliament Benjamin Jomo Washiali has lauded the move by the New Ford Kenya party to join Jubilee party ahead of the next general election saying that he is optimistic that the party will make the next government.
Speaking at Makunga village in Tongaren sub County during the burial ceremony of his cousin Gabriel Murunga, Hon Washiali said that it is time for leaders from the Western part of Kenya join the winning party to help stir development in the region which has lagged behind for a long time.
He welcomed Budalang’i Mp Ababu Namwamba to join Jubilee party saying that the leadership of a party is key to its running.
Hon. Washiali revealed that he was once an ODM member but decamped to UDF party, which he is now the party leader and will also be joining Jubilee party ahead of the general election.
“Many leaders decamped from ODM including Musalia Mudavadi, the deputy president William Ruto, Najib Balala among others which is an indication that the party is not accommodative and inclusive of all the values of democracy” he said
Washiali who is also the deputy chief whip of the national assembly, stated that it is the responsibility of leaders to preach peace for the country needs to be peaceful before and after the next general elections.
He welcomed the CORD leader Raila Amollo Odinga in his planned visit to Western Kenya saying he is at liberty to campaign in any part of the country.
He urged the CORD leader to also address the issue of the collapse of Mumias Sugar Company as it collapsed during his tenure as the prime minister of the republic of Kenya, with Nairobi governor Dr. Evans Kidero as the managing director.
Washiali also advocated for rehabilitation of roads after the increment of fuel prices saying the taxes are supposed to be ploughed back to help ordinary Kenyans to commute since the public service vehicles have also hiked fare blaming it on the high spending on repairing damaged vehicles caused by poor roads.
Regarding the case of reinstating Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi back to parliament, Washiali stated all the three arms of government have rules that have to be strictly followed.
