National Government Constituencies’ Development Fund new committee members in Kimilili constituency officially assumed office on Wednesday.
The National Government Constituencies’ Development Fund came in place after president Uhuru Kenyatta signed in to law a bill that regularizes the constituency development fund, the new CDF.
Speaking after overseeing the exercise Kimilili Member of Parliament Suleiman Murunga said the committee is mandated to oversee the implementation of the projects identified for funding and called upon them to be diligent in performing their duties.
He disclosed that with the new act is meant to help supplement national government development projects in the constituency saying it will not be used to fund devolved functions.
The Mp further called upon the residents to be actively involved in suggesting the projects they feel will be of benefit to them so that they be given priorities during the funding saying as tax payers they are entitled to better services from the government.
On his part the fund chairman who retained his position, Joseph Walubengo said he will ensure all the scheduled projects for funding receive money saying having sub committees from each location will help them identify projects.
He further disclosed that the bursary kitty will also be on course saying needy children in high school and institutions of higher learning will get an opportunity of being helped to fund their education as long as they apply on time.
Hon. Murunga also took the opportunity to send his message of condolences to the family and friends of the late former housing minister and former Malava constituency Mp Soita Shitanda who succumbed after ailing.
He termed the late Shitanda as a hard working politician who stood firm by his decisions saying the entire western region has lost a great leader who was on the frontline of uniting the people of western Kenya.
He wished the family well during this period of mourning saying it is hard to lose somebody they had been attached to for a very long period of time.
