Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Teso Branch conducted their election last week where new office bearers were elected.
The election held last Thursday in Amagoro, Teso North Sub County, saw the election of Olekachuna Omuse as new Secretary General after the retirement of Deogracious Owaya who had clung to the top seat since 2003
He has officially relinquished the seat after attaining 60 years which made him ineligible to contest once more.
The new Secretary-General was initially the chairman of the branch.
Paul Ekwenye, formerly the vice secretary, is now the new chair while Joseph Eseme retained his treasurer position.
The election of the new office bearers didn’t witness any competition as members unanimously reached a consensus to guard against the emergence of cracks within the union.
The national vice treasurer of the union Ali Hussein Abdi presided over the exercise, urging members to remain loyal to the union for their own good and that of the union.
” Please don’t be distracted by anybody to leave the union. We know the government has a wider scheme to cause confusion in the Union, but please, let’s remain in solidarity for together, we shall defeat the enemy.’’ He said.
