A new sub county, Kacheliba sub county, has been established in West Pokot County. The County now has six sub counties and area leaders and residents are now optimistic about creation of more jobs and services being moved closer to residents. In a gazette notice dated 3rd July 2020 the new Kacheliba sub county will have its headquarters at Kacheliba. The six sub counties now are West Pokot, Pokot South, Pokot Central, Pokot North, Kipkomo and the new Kacheliba sub county. Kacheliba sub county will have three wards and borders Uganda.
Speaking on phone, Kacheliba MP Mark Lomunokol lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for the move, noting that services have been moved closer to the people and it will help solve insecurity challenges between Uganda and Kenya at Kanyerus. He added that the North Pokot sub county was always vast but the consideration of creating a new sub county will cure disputes at Kanyerus area and locals will now live peacefully. “Administration will now be closer to the people. The issue of Identification cards and other documents will now be available at Kacheliba. We hope for more divisions will be created,” he said.
He noted that the three wards of Suam, Kodich and Kapchok will be under the new sub county and will occupy 1800 square kilometres. Kapchok ward MCA Peter Lokor said the creation of the new administrative unit is a relief to his people adding that locals have been traveling to Alale to get ID cards and other documents.
