In a passionate defense of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), committee members have urged Kenyans to support and protect the fund, highlighting its vital role in supporting education for underserved communities. The call to action came as debates about the fund’s legality intensified.
At a recent event in Dagoretti-North Constituency, where NG-CDF bursaries were distributed to needy students, Committee Chairperson Hon. Musa Sirma underscored the fund’s impact on enhancing educational infrastructure and alleviating the financial burdens of poor families.
“All of us are here to witness the benefits of this essential fund,” Sirma stated. “The NG-CDF is instrumental in improving our schools and supporting our children’s education. Any discussions aimed at abolishing it are misguided and harmful.”
Hon. Beatrice Elachi, the area MP, emphasized the need for parental involvement in ensuring students can stay in school by paying their remaining fees promptly. She acknowledged the fund’s efforts but highlighted the importance of community support to keep learners in the educational system.
“I am committed to distributing NG-CDF bursaries fairly, but I need parents to step up and manage the balance of school fees,” Elachi said. “Our goal is to prevent any learner from being forced out of school due to financial constraints.”
Kitutu Masaba MP Hon. Clive Gisairo, also a committee member, advised students and parents to stay informed about the new university funding model. He stressed the importance of accurate applications to secure government support and avoid missing out on essential funds.
Nairobi County MP Hon. Esther Passaris echoed the call for parental engagement, urging families to take active roles in retaining students in school and addressing the troubling rise in dropout rates.
As the debate around the NG-CDF continues, committee members remain steadfast in their advocacy, highlighting the fund’s indispensable role in fostering educational opportunities and community development.
