The membership of Ng’arisha Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization has grown from 14,693 in 2018 to 15,229 currently.
In a statement read to delegates by Sacco officials during the annual delegates meeting held in a hotel in Busia town, the Sacco’s income also grew to 72,443,423.
The Sacco’s chairperson Benedict Simiyu linked the growth to good management and better services being offered to members, “We have improved our services to our members and this has greatly contributed to the growth of membership.”
Simiyu revealed that the Sacco has increased the amount paid to family members when a Sacco member dies from Kshs 30,000 to Kshs 50,000, “This is in addition to other benefits including writing off loans if the deceased had.”
Education stakeholders who attended the meeting, including Bungoma East KNUT Executive Secretary Aggrey Namisi, Bungoma County Kuppet official Augustine Luketelo and Bungoma County Teachers Service Commission Director Ibrahim Aden, lauded the Sacco for being steadfast in improving the economic standards of teachers in Bungoma, “Teachers who are your members are now living a better life because of the good services you offer them.”
They, however, challenged the Sacco to set higher standards even as Simiyu encouraged teachers and others members of the public who are yet to join the Sacco to do so and benefit from a number of services it offers.
