The Nandi County Assembly has passed a motion on the sensitization of the public concerning the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to educate the masses on the importance of the health cover.
The motion which was tabled by Kabwareng MCA Jackson Swadi, was unanimously supported by the members. It was agreed that the Ministry of Health under the leadership of CEC Ruth Koech will prioritize the health cover education initiative.
They argued that NHIF plays an important role when it comes to catering for hospital bills but the majority of residents don’t have sufficient information about it and a thorough sensitization needs to be done in across Nandi.
It was also agreed that the County Health Ministry should recruit two people per ward to carry out the sensitization at the grass root level. This is seen as a major step towards fulfilling one of the key targets of the Big Four agenda-Universal Healthcare-and boost medical care access.
