A night guard at one of the shops at Sango market in Likuyani sub county is nursing injuries after being attacked by armed thugs. Confirming the incident, Sango sub location assistant chief Mrs. Fridah Lusweti Shirengo said a gang of about five men armed with crude weapons invaded the market few minutes past midnight with an aim of
stealing from the shop manned by the 67-year-old Joseph Makokha.
However, she said Makokha, who was alert, fought the gang and after overpowering them the decided to hit him with a stone before cutting him on the head using a machete and fled away without stealing anything.
Makokha raised an alarm and neighbours responded to rescue him. He was rushed to Sango health centre where he was admitted. Mrs. Shirengo said police have launched investigation into the incident and appealed to anyone who has information about the gang to volunteer it to the security apparatus for a legal action to be taken
against them.
Elsewhere, three suspects among them two students of Ivona secondary school in Lugari sub county were arrested after they were found with marijuana and other outlawed drugs inside a church.
The three, a lady and two boys, had joined other youths for a night fellowship at Kware Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) church when they were nabbed.
The preachers for the night, Manoah Kesevede and Mrs. Alice Walubengo,
said they were guided by God to where the three were seated and after searching them they impounded the bhang worth thousands of shillings and several packets of a drug commonly known as ‘Kuber’.
The suspects were later handed to police officers at Mlimani patrol base where it was established that the lady and one of the boys were Form Three students at Ivona secondary school where the other suspect was a farmhand in the home of one of an administration police officers station at Misikhu in the neighbouring Bungoma County.
