President William Ruto has sent a message of appreciation to everyone who contributed to ODM leader Raila Odinga’s campaign in his bid for the African Union Commission position. He also made a special mention to the entire Africa for its show of solidarity and support to Kenya and Hon Odinga.
Speaking from state house Mombasa on Monday where he met with ODM leader after he jetted back in the country since he lost the AUC Chairperson position bid, the head of state said that Hon Raila Odinga rolled out a formidable and effective campaign for the position of African Union Commission chairperson across the continent.
He added that Mr. Odinga was present and available for the busy schedules and appointments in nearly all capitals of Africa.
He said that Odinga’s inspiring message of what is needed for the continent’s transformation brought our country, Eastern Africa and Africa together.
President ruto however said that his government remains focused on accelerating the momentum in building a united continent with sufficient infrastructure to further intra-African trade.
On his part, the leader of ODM Party Raila Odinga said that he was grateful to President Ruto for standing by him. Mr. Odinga explained that President Ruto never asked him to run for the position of AUC as chairperson. ‘I announced myself that I was going to run for the AUC Chair seat and Ruto only came after I had made that announcement to support my candidature,” He said in a statement.
Odinga also dismissed allegations that the government spent billions of shillings during his AUC campaign.
