Bungoma North Senior Deputy County Commissioner Philip Koima has assured residents that no one will be evicted from pieces of land they legally own citing that before adhering to the court orders to evict a number of residents, thorough investigations will be done to determine the legal owners of the land, besides mechanism to evict those residing in public land among measures to curb cases of land grabbing.
Addressing locals of Bungoma North, Koima noted that his office had received a number of eviction notices and court orders to relocate a number of people but emphasized on the need for thorough investigations to be carried out before adhering to the court orders.
On land disputes and cases among the residents, he promised to ensure the cases are resolved in a peaceful and secure way that would continue to unite locals and families including the border and boundary disputes.
Forced evictions have for a long time been a problem across this nation that has for a number of years threatened livelihood and lives among the less fortunate in the society, the elderly, women and persons living with disabilities who have had no place to live.
With regard to gender based violence, Koima noted that the law would heavily punish anyone who would be found harassing any citizen or sidelining them on the basis of their gender in accessing services from various institutions of the government.
