Kakamega Catholic Diocese Bishop Joseph Sagwe Obanyi has come out firmly to state that he will not tolerate the LQBTQ agenda in all the parishes under his wings in Kakamega County.
While delivering a Christmas sermon at St. Mary’s Catholic parish at Lwanda in Malava constituency, the calm bishop cautioned all the Catholic priests under His watch not to bless or oversee any marriage ceremony for the LGBTQ+ community.
“I am ordering this from here, in Kakamega. To the priests, don’t dare bless any two men or women who think they are couples. Tell them to get lost. They are not a family, and they will never be accepted.” Roared the masculine and soft-spoken Bishop Obanyi.
Bishop Obanyi added that God did not intend for same-sex marriage.
“God does not accept this kind of marriage. LGBTQ is not there. It’s not for people.”
According to him, all priests under his wings are at liberty to bless the marriage between a man and a woman who wishes to officiate their marriage in a church ceremony. Further, he added that a couple who doesn’t want to officiate their marriage but wants to be blessed will also be sent away.
“Those who want their union to be blessed and have not officiated their marriage should also be kicked out. There is no difference between you and them (LGBTQ+).” Bishop Obanyi said.
Moreover, he clarified that most people got the message from the POPE in the wrong way.
“The message from Rome was that blessings come from God and can go to anybody. Anybody who seeks a blessing can get it from God.”
The Kakamega Catholic Diocese Bishop expounds that the confusing query was whether those in the LGBTQ+ community would also be blessed.
“The message did not say they (LGBTQ+) would be blessed to be recognized. The message was firm: The church teaches marriage between a man and a woman according to how God intended it to be.” He explained.
He affirmed that the Catholic Church’s teachings on family and marriage have not been changed.
