Groups in Trans Nzoia County have vowed to move to Court to block a contractor from constructing a business center whose construction is set to commence in a month’s time. Led by the Truth and Peace, Justice Center leader Kepha Were and Trans Nzoia movement for change leader James Wanambisi Mulongo, they’ve said the contractor was blacklisted by the assembly of Trans Nzoia, claiming he is using back door deals to get the tender.
They claimed the said contractor has invited 15 MCAs to Nairobi to show them how he aspires to win the tender, adding that the MCAs have been compromised. The Trans Nzoia County government, in collaboration with World Bank, received Kshs.174 million that was set aside for the business centre construction. However, the awarding of the tender has drawn the attention of the groups.
They’ve all vowed to make sure the said contractor doesn’t win the tender and if he wins it, they’ll move to court to block him from going ahead with the planned construction.
The sentiments of the two leaders were echoed by Hospital ward MCA Eric Wafula Mwangale who criticized his fellow MCAs for going against the bill which blacklisted the contractor from working in the County. The MCA said his 15 counterparts who traveled to Nairobi are misusing taxpayers’ money. “If you’ve awarded the tender to a contractor, is it possible that you travel to check on him, or it’s upon him to come to the County and showcase what he can deliver?” he posed.
He supported the proposed move to court to block the business centre construction, adding that his motion to impeach County Governor Patrick Khaemba is still on course.
