Nyumba Kumi training launched in Kitale
The Interior ministry has launched a training in Kitale Tran’s Nzoia County on Citizen Participation and Security popularly known as the Nyumba Kumi Intiative.
The participants will be the government policing agencies and national government administration officers who will be trained to be trainers of trainers.
The launch was spearheaded by Trans Nzoia county commissioner Seif Matata who said more than 150 trainers of trainers will be trained and dispatched to the villages to capacity build the communities on the ground on how to participate in the community policing programmes.

The programmes main objective is to reach out to many people and help them learn and understand the community policing concept so that they can be able to work together with all the government policing agencies within the area and hence secure communities.
“The ‘mwanainchi’ has a right to participate in making decision on how to secure himself.”
This was according to the county commissioner who said the citizens have a vital role to play in securing themselves, and their properties and the national interest in consultation and working together with the government policing agencies.
Also speaking during the launch Dr. Francis Sang, Sang, the vice chairman of the Nyumba Kumi security programme said those committing crimes are living with law abiding citizens in their midst.
He said the programme will enable bring citizens as a focal point on the issues of security.
Dr. Sang who once served in the position of director of criminal investigation four a period of four years said in areas where effective community policing has been implemented 30-40 percent of insecurity is addressed.

Retired lieutenant colonel Francis Charles Mugambi who is a member on the committee of security secretariat highlighted on the importance of involving political leaders in the security programme.
He said Political leaders are chosen by people and must be informed about the activities of community policing without politicizing it.
“Politics is part and parcel of our democracy in this country there is nothing you can do without involving politicians because they are people who represent citizens and if you put them aside, nothing takes off.” Said Mr. Mugambi.
On the other hand the former Member of Parliament for Narok Mr. Nkoidila Ole Lankas said they were rolling down the programme as articulated by the president, when he said security begins with you.
He added that security should not be only left to government agencies but with also the involvement of the community.
