Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has assured all aspirants eyeing the party slots in the forthcoming general elections a free and fair process during nominations so as to enable them bag as many seats as they can.
Speaking in his Siaka home of Kanduyi constituency after receiving defectors in the party, the party’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said he had previously been a victim of bungled nomination exercise saying he will ensure those who will pass the exercise are the one that are handed the tickets.
He disclosed that being a national party they have to ensure they get as many seats as possible saying it has to begin with the nomination exercise saying the aspirants should have faith in the structures they have put in place.
Sifuna further said that after assuming the office he disbanded the committee that was in charge of awarding nomination slots to those who represented the party in the County as well as the national assembly saying, the responsibility will be upon the party members to decide who qualifies.
Sifuna downplayed requests from party members as well as residents who had requested him to vie for an elective seat in Bungoma County saying he aims to help Raila Odinga become the president and therefore asked them to let him perform the duties diligently.
Bungoma County ODM chairman Ali Machani called upon members to focus on recruiting more members in the party and also focus on bagging many seats saying it will be the only way to help them have a formidable bargaining power.
His sentiments were echoed by Bukembe East MCA Joram Wanjala and nominated MCA Hilda Siang’a who said as a party they have to work together to realize the dream of Raila Odinga as the 5th president of Kenya.
Some who defected include Nancy Kibaba vying for Women representative from Ford Kenya, Aggrey Namisi vying for Webuye East Mp from Ford Kenya among others.
