Tullow Oil Company is expected to carry out prospects on oil exploration in West Pokot County in a few months time.
This comes after a meeting between the top county leadership and the top management of Tullow Oil Company where they agreed on the move.
Speaking during a media breakfast in his office, the area governor Simon Kachapin said that they held talks with the company’s top management and agreed to carry out prospects on oil in Turkwel region.
“We have given the company a go ahead to carry out prospects on oil exploration in areas along Turkwel region belt,” he said.
Kachapin told residents that the company will commence on the work soon and asked residents to cooperate with the county government and the company.
He however pointed out that the activities that will be conducted by Tullow are in anticipation of oil discovery since striking oil was not guaranteed.
“We suspect areas along the Turkwel belt to be having oil prospects since the region borders Ngamia One where the company had discovered oil,” he said.
The county boss assured investors that the region was safe after both the county and national governments cooperated to end cattle rustling menace.
The region was insecure in the past years due to cattle rustling and most companies which were operating in the region were forced to close down their operations.
Kachapin said that talks with Tullow were part of his government’s agenda to woo investors and boost economy of the county.
“Late this year we are planning to hold an investment forum in bid to attract more investors on board,” he said.
The governor was also optimistic that during the investment forum they will be able to sign contracts with many investors since the West Pokot county has been rated among the safest counties in the country.
