One person died on the spot Sunday evening while two escaped with injuries following a fatal accident that involved a Nissan Matatu and a motorbike at Musembe along Webuye–Eldoret highway in Lugari Sub County.
According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred at about 4 pm when a motorbike rammed into the rear of the matatu. The motorcyclist who was carrying two passengers was over speeding and tried to overtake the matatu which was in front without seeing an approaching vehicle from the opposite side.
The rider tried to turn back to his lane but he, unfortunately, rammed into the rear of the Matatu belonging to the Western Townace Sacco which was travelling from Bungoma heading to Eldoret.
The rider who was identified as Sammy Sindani Opechu, aged 21, died on the spot while his passengers who escaped with minor injuries fled the scene. Both the vehicle Reg. No KBR 335P Foton Matatu and the motorbike Reg. No. KMEB 878M TVS star were towed to Turbo police station for inspection while the body was moved to Chebaiywa mortuary for a postmortem.
