One person died on the spot following a night road accident that involved a petrol tanker and a motorbike at Mwamba along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.
Confirming the incident, Lugari sub county police commander Patrick Maundu said the accident occurred after the tanker driver tried to carelessly overtake the vehicle that was in front before hitting and killing the motorbike rider who was on the opposite side of the road heading towards Turbo trading centre.
The sub county police boss has urged motor vehicle drivers to always observe traffic rules and be mindful of other road users. The deceased who is a resident of Siyenga in the neighbouring Likuyani sub county was on his way back after visiting relatives in Bungoma County when the tragedy occurred at around 8:30pm.
The body was removed by officers from Turbo police station and taken to Kimbilio mortuary in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County as they launched investigations into the incident.
