One person died on the spot on Monday night after he was involved in a road accident near Kilimani trading center along the Soy–Turbo road in Likuyani Sub County.
The accident which occurred at about 8:30 pm involved a motorbike which was allegedly over speeding from Seregeya towards Turbo before it lost control and veered off the road landing in a ditch, killing the rider on the spot.
According to the deceased’s mother Mrs. Priscah Mulongo, her 28 year old son Godfrey Nengo, a father of two, was returning home when the tragedy occurred.
The 80 year old granny said she was informed of the incident by her grandchildren at about 9pm but she couldn’t believe until the neighbor and other villagers told her.
She said her son was discovered by a lorry driver who was passing and got concerned after spotting a motorbike in the ditch.
The driver stopped and together with his conductor went to check on the motorbike before they discovered there was somebody in the ditch.
Later the driver left his assistant keeping watch on the scene while he proceeded to Kilimani trading center where he informed residents who were around and they rushed to the scene where they managed to identify and later informed his family. The granny said her son was drunk when the incident occurred.
A good Samaritan who thought he was in a coma offered to rush him to Turbo sub county hospital where he was confirmed dead before his body was transferred to Chebaiywa mortuary in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County.
The incident has been confirmed by Seregeya sub location assistant chief Moses Shivina Wanjala who urged residents to desist from riding motorbikes while drunk to prevent such avoidable accidents.
