One person died on the spot following a road accident involving a truck at Kipkaren market along Eldoret – Webuye highway at the border of Kakamega and Uasin Gishu counties.
According to the eye witnesses the accident occurred after a driver of a pickup vehicle that was in front of the truck heading towards Eldoret carelessly diverted towards Osorongai route.
The truck driver swerved to the right to avoid hitting the pickup brushing past it before it knocked and ran over Mr. Joseph Ndegwa, a matatu driver who had alighted and walked to the opposite side of the road to pick a passenger.
Without noticing that he had killed somebody the truck driver tried to proceed with his journey before he was intercepted by residents at the Kipkaren bridge since the deceased’s body had hooked itself on the bottom side of the truck and it was being dragged along the road.
The body was later removed from the scene by police officers from Lumakanda station and taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Eldoret.
The pickup driver who is alleged to have caused the accident drove off immediately after escaping death by a whisker.
