A 1-year and 3-months old baby died after being choked by groundnuts at Lukusi village, Chekalini location in Lugari sub county. The incident occurred at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Mateche who told West Media that they were taking tea together with the deceased’s mother Ms. Ann James who is her maid when the tragedy occurred.
She said the baby’s mother stood and went to pick a cup from the rack so that she could give her son porridge, but the boy who had put groundnuts in the mouth followed his mother while crying before he was choked in the process.
Mrs. Mateche said they tried to conduct first aid to save his life unsuccessfully before they rushed him to Lumakanda County hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the facility.
The body was later taken to Chebaiywa mortuary in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County.
The incident has been confirmed by Musembe sub location assistant chief Richard Etale.
The incident comes barely three weeks after a seven months boy from the same location was choked to death by a lollipop candy at Chekalini trading center.
