Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has been ranked as the best performing Governor in Kenya, according to a survey by Infotrak. Kakamega County has also been ranked as the best performing County countywide in the survey results released on Wednesday. Oparanya has posted a score of 82.3%, followed by Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya with 77.1%, Makueni’s Kivutha Kibwana with 74.4%, Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o with 65.9%, Machakos Govenor Alfred Mutual with 65.1% and West Pokot’s John Lonyangapuo with 64.2%, to close the top six.
Infotrak said the survey was conducted between October to December 2019 to January 2020 with the pilot conducted between August and September 2019, and the sample was 37,600. It was conducted to ascertain County residents’ assessment on the performance of their County governments against key performance indicators and to develop a scorecard on the performance of their County governments.
Key pointers used include agriculture, health, education, roads and transport, energy, water management, trade and tourism, social services, County planning and development, culture and sports among others. Among the Counties, Kakamega leads with a score of 57.4%, Kwale with 54.8%, Makueni with 54.7%, Kisumu 53.4%, Uasin Gishu 53.1%, West Pokot 51.7%.
In the former Western province, Oparanya is the best preforming Governor followed by Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo with a score of 60.5%, Bungoma’s Wycliffe Wangamati scored 56.6%, Busia’s Sospeter Ojaamong with 47.5%. Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba scored 42.7%.
