Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has affirmed that the Western region needs one political figurehead to lead it, even as leaders fall into different camps, notably, the ones led by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and the other led by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.
Oparanya and CS Wamalwa were chosen as Western region spokespersons during the now infamous Kajiado meeting, a decision that was met with opposition from some quarters. However, Malala has now noted that the two aren’t political leaders, and have the positions purely on an administrative basis, “I still support the Kajiado resolution that that Oparanya and CS Wamalwa should make sure that the policies and services are actively favourable….however, the day you cease being the Governor and CS, your roles as spokespersons will end.”
He said it’s better for the Luhya community to know the need for administrative and political leader, with the latter position still vacant. He said as administrative leaders, their role ends with service provision.
