Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Devolution CE Eugene Wamalwa have insisted that they are focused on development and not politics even as they go around the Western region meeting elders. Speaking when they met elders in Kakamega, Oparanya called upon MCAs and other politicians to stop the trend of seeking to impeach leaders but instead focus on other important matters like fighting Covid-19.
According to Governor Oparanya, the meeting with elders was set to discuss the Covid-19 pandemic an also to update them on development projects and agenda for the region. “It is time for us to talk about development and not politics. We need to help our people by rolling out development projects,” said Oparanya. He revealed that the national government is committed to reviving the Mumias Sugar Company. “The government has already released Kshs 138 million to clear farmers’ debts which Mumias Sugar Company owes them. Some farmers were not paid their money after delivering cane to the company,” he said.
Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa who co-chaired the meeting with the Kakamega Governor said their agenda is development and not politics. “We are not fighting anyone or engaged in any politics. Our focus is development. We want to see our factories revived to boost our economy. We also want new projects to be launched,” said Wamalwa. Also present were Busia Governor Sospeter Ojamoong, Vihiga Governor Wilbur Otichillo, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Senators, MPs, MCAs among other leaders.
