Cord leader Raila Odinga has expressed the need for a dialogue between the government and opposition leaders so as to positively address the issues that are affecting Kenyans saying the president and his deputy have to engage them to chat a way forward.
Addressing residents of Kapsokwony in Mt. Elgon constituency while presiding over a funds drive at the area Seventh day Adventist church Raila said the country currently is in a mess due to the several scandals of corruption which has derailed development in the country.
He cited the Eurobond money and NYS scandals for having been mega scandals in the jubilee government saying a dialogue will indeed raise the required solutions to the major problems and others affecting Kenyans after the Okoa Kenya referendum push failed to push through.
Raila asserted that the Eurobond money which was a sum of one hundred and forty billion shillings borrowed never reached the country saying only a debt is incurred to the innocent taxpayers in Kenya as a sum of seventy five thousand shillings will be paid by every Kenyan to clear the bill.
He further disclosed that as a coalition they will be going on with countrywide demonstrations to push for the resignation of commissioners of the independent electoral and boundaries commission saying they have no faith that they will independently and in a transparent manner run the next general election.
“When I was the prime minister I ordered for Cheptais to be a district and it came to be and you have also expressed your concern to have the constituency be split in to two to have a leader whose services will be felt” he added
Mt. Elgon MP John Serut applauded the efforts of the cord leader Raila Odinga for having helped spur numerous developments in the constituency saying the beginning of the construction of Kamkuywa-Kapsokwony-Kopsiro road was started during his tenure as the prime minister.
He said it is important to have an opposition in the country so as to keep the government on toes and monitor issues affecting people saying with Raila Odinga on board the opposition is very strong and will work well.
Former Kanduyi MP Alfred Khang’ati also lashed at the Bungoma County government for also perpetrating corruption saying many places in the County are under developed despite the county receiving billions of shillings every financial year.
