Opposition leaders have called upon the government to investigate the alleged transportation of voters from other neighbouring countries. FORD-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula said he has enough evidence to support the fact that the government is working closely with area MP Dr. Robert Pukose to advance the scheme.
“I want to tell the government to stop importing voters from Uganda through area MP Dr. Robert Pukose. We shall take the law into our hands and chase those people away,” said Wetangula.
Wetangula said the government needs to move with speed and investigate the alleged voter transportation in the Sub County, where foreigners are being offered Kenyan identity cards.
He, however, urged residents to be extra vigilant and expose those who are taking part in the act in the region.
His sentiments were echoed by fellow opposition leader Amani party leader Musalia Mudavadi who wanted comprehensive investigations to be carried out to unearth the truth pertaining the issue.
Mudavadi said those behind the registration of people who are not residents of the county need to be investigated and be taken to court for taking part in the illegal act.
He asked the office of the registrar of persons within the county to perform its duties in accordance with the law.
However, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Anne Gakuria denied the allegations and said there was no foreigner so far registered in the County and upon politicians to stop making inflammatory statements.
Gakuria appealed to the politicians to work closely with her office to expose any shoddy deals being carried out by officers or registration offices instead of blowing the matter out of proportion.
