Funyula MP Paul Otuoma has insisted that the Busia gubernatorial ODM nomination ticket belongs to him, despite losing the ticket to Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong. Paul Otuoma garnered 63,752 votes, while Governor Ojaamong had 92,358 votes in the Busia ODM party primaries, which experienced tension and delays since yesterday when the votes were cast. Otuoma said that the votes tallied in Teso South for example, as a case that proves there was rigging in the nominations, “In Teso South there were 44,000 voters, and in a place like Nambale only 3,000,” he said, “It shows that 44,000 slots were granted to Teso South alone.”
“We have no plan B, only a plan A,” insisted Otuoma, “And that entails the fact we have won the nominations and we’re just waiting for the August general elections. He said that he is confident that the decision of the residents of Busia will prevail, “I know that I’ve won the nominations,” said Otuoma, citing that the issue must be sorted out by the ODM National Elections Board. “We need to wait and see what the NEB decides first,” he said.
Otuoma said Governor Ojaamong used people allied to him to handle the nominations, indicating that it contributed to the rigging “I asked the NEB to explain why the Governor has placed his workers as returning officers,” he said, “Where the returning officer, Mr Oluku comes from, is the same place that has produced 80,000 votes. Other places have produced votes as normally expected.”
