Over 100 orphaned and vulnerable children from Mautuma ward in Lugari Sub County benefitted from pairs of shoes and clothes donated by the area Member of County Assembly (MCA’s) spouse Pamela Nekesa Anyona.
Speaking at Mukuyu Special School where she also gave food to the disabled learners, Mrs. Anyona said the objective of donating the shoes was to save the children from environmental related disease infections.
“I am depressed by the large number of OVCs who carry out their duties bare feet,” she observed.
Mrs. Anyona commended a section of leaders from Lugari constituency for supporting her initiative to assist the disadvantaged in the community.
She appealed to parents with children living with disabilities not to hide them but take them to school saying disability was not inability and with education they can be resourceful to the community.
Apart from Mukuyu Special School Mrs. Anyona also donated shoes to OVCs in Sipande, Muviki and Mahiga primary schools.
She reiterated her commitment in ensuring the OVCs in Mautuma ward live a better life and feel accepted like other children in the society.
Mukuyu Special School head teacher Mrs. Margaret Olutwati commended Mrs. Anyona for her continued support to the Special School adding that the shoes will save a number of the pupils from jigger attack which she observed was a menace in the area.
