Over 150,000 voters are expected to participate in the August 29, 2022 Kakamega County gubernatorial elections in Lugari and Likuyani Constituencies.
According to Lugari constituency Returning Officer Jeremiah Kerich and his Likuyani counterpart Fredrick Odenge, all the equipment required for the exercise have already been received adding that IEBC officials to help during the voting process are ready in every polling center.
They urged the voters to wake up for the elections as early as possible because their officials will be waiting for them from 6am as they involve in an exercise of electing a leader of their choice.
The Returning Officers added that the rules governing elections will be strictly adhered to and urged all stakeholders including election observers, candidate’s agents to properly understand the IEBC rules.
“I want to assure you that we received ballot papers and all other needed materials for the success of the elections,” said Kerich.
Lugari constituency has six wards which include; Lumakanda, Mautuma, Lugari, Chekalini, Lwandeti and Chevaywa with a total of 86, 908 registered voters while Likuyani constituency has five wards which include; Sinoko, Nzoia, Kongoni, Sango and Likuyani with a voter registration of 72, 449 expected in the August 29, 2022 gubernatorial elections.
“We urge the electorates to exercise their constitutional right peacefully by electing the Governor of their choice,” said Odenge.
Kakamega County race has attracted seven gubernatorial candidates who include Fernandes Barasa of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Cleophas Malala of Amani National Congress (ANC), Shakhalaga Jirongo of United Democratic Party (UDP), Samuel Omukoko of Maendeleo Democratic Party (MDP) and Suleiman Kanyanya of Kenya African National Union (KANU). Also in the race are Austin Otieno (Independent) and Michael Osundwa (Independent).
