Corona pandemic came with misfortunes in the country as Bungoma County has so far recorded more than six thousand cases of early pregnancies since March last year.
Bungoma County women representative Catherine Wambilianga says the data is disheartening saying some of them were candidates who even delivered during national examination saying they have been pushing on the modalities of curbing the issue.
She said through the affirmative action fund they have previously managed to help some of the affected students to get back to school saying through the national government they need to work more to enlighten the society.
Hon Wambilianga added that issues of gender based violence have also been on the increase in the County saying through the GBV center at Ndengelwa they have been able to help them recover.
Her sentiments were echoed by gender CAS Linah Kilimo who said having such a center in the County is a plus as those affected will be able to have a place where they will be secure and be able to heal.
However, she added that in future they will be focusing on turning the center into a training center to help them acquire different skills to be self employed.
She further called upon men who are fond of propagating violence against women to desist from the vice saying they should instead divert the energy to farming activities.
Bungoma County commissioner Samuel Kimiti admitting that gender based violence is an issue that they need to critically check on in the county.
