Parents of Bondeni area in Machewa ward Saboti Sub County, Trans Nzoia County have been blamed for not supporting their children in matters education leading to early pregnancies and boys engaging in Bodaboda business in the region.
Some of the parents in the area led by Newton Muganda have explained how parents have not put in mind education status of the area claiming many don’t care working together with teachers in improving education standards in the area.
They claimed several parents even don’t co-operate with law enforcers of the area whenever early pregnancies are experienced as they take as an advantage of forming kangaroo courts whereby they solicit funds from perpetrators.
They also explained how acts of alcoholism has contributed to low education standards of the area as parents take illicit brew with their children making it hard for the area to experience education standards of the area.
Parents sentiments were echoed by the Principal Edwin Wakasiaka Mwichabe who described the education status of the region as dire claiming parents have absconded their duties of making sure their children get the best education.
The principal explained how pregnancy cases in the area have risen with last year’s candidates being victims as most of them didn’t perform well during the 2020 KCSE.
He claimed most parents have failed to ensure action is taken against culprits implicated in pregnancy cases as they collude in exchange of monies making it hard for the minor to get justice claiming they take advantage of seeking an education letter from his office which they use it for bargaining for more cash.
“Most parents here who their children are impregnated after seeking a letter from our school ,they go ahead and use the same letter as a cash cow soliciting funds from the suspect making it hard for justice of the minor,” said principal Wakasiaka.
He stated that the area administration also finds it difficult in apprehending the suspects as most of the area residents have dual citizenry and that upon engaging in such activities they run to the neighboring country Uganda making it hard for the suspect to be arrested.
He noted that among the efforts that he has put in place of making sure the once married children and those with kids are admitted back in school to continue with their education disclosing that they are several students at the school who their parents had married them off were admitted and going on well with their studies.
