Parents have been urged to invest fully in their children’s education as a way of curbing poverty in the future and were also reminded not to spend all the cash they have during this festive season but keep in mind the fact that schools will be opening after few weeks.
These were sentiments by Webuye East Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary, Mr. Aggrey Namisi during the closure of 45th United Society of Friends Women (USFW) Lugulu Yearly Meeting Annual Conference in Misemwa Friends Secondary School who stated that education is the key to success to any child therefore, and parents should support their children in all ways to ensure that they succeed in the future.
Namisi urged the national government to employ more teachers as he cited that the new education system requires more teachers since all pupils who sat for 2017 KCPE will join Secondary Schools thus increasing the ratio of students to teachers.
“I would like to thank the government for 100% transition as our children will be joining secondary school and paying fees for our day school students, and for this to happen, the government should increase more teachers in our schools so that they may cater for the increased number of our children,” stated Namisi
“The government should also send money on time to our schools so that Principals may plan how they’ll operate,” he said.
Bokoli ward Member of County Assembly Jack Kawa who also attended the Conference said that Bungoma County Government has already set aside funds that will help in paying for children who come from poor families so that they may continue with their education.
“As a County government I would like to thank the Bungoma Governor for having made our work easy as MCAs since we are going to have public vetting that will be so transparent when it comes to selecting children who come from poor families so that they may be the only beneficiaries of bursaries,” said Kawa.
He, however, revealed that children who come from poor families will not be required to apply for bursaries but the County will be using meetings to choose those children who deserve bursaries only and he said that the method will be transparent.
Kawa praised the NASA coalition for cancelling the swearing-in ceremony of their leader, Raila Odinga, as said it was a vital way of promoting peace, saying it could’ve led to violence.
He urged parents to take care of their children during this festive season so that they may go back to school without any interferences.
