Parents urged to immunize children against polio
Lugari sub county medical officer of Health doctor Mike Ekisa has urged parents and stakeholders in the Sub County to make sure all children under the age of five years are immunized against polio in the ongoing exercise.
Speaking when he briefed the media on the ongoing polio immunization campaign Dr. Ekisa, said the sub county targets to immunize about 43,162 at end of the five day exercise which has entered the third.
“A total of 19,103 children had received the drops against polio by close of business on Sunday,” revealed the doctor, adding the same translated to 40%.

Dr. Mike told West media that health officers and community health workers were walking house to house in the sub county immunizing children within the specified age bracket.
“All children under five years will be immunized regardless of whether they had previously been immunized against the same,” emphasized Dr. Ekisa.
Expressing disappointment over increasing cases of stunted growth and lame people from the area, the doctor attributed the situation to ignorance and negligence on importance of the polio immunization.
“My department recently met a total of 400 stunted growth and lame persons, with about 20 of them falling within the ages of 15 and 20 years especially from Matete district having signs relating to polio,” revealed Dr. Ekisa.
