Lugari Deputy Commissioner William Lenaremo has appealed to parents to monitor activities of their children whether they are at home or school.
Speaking to the media in his office, Lenaremo regretted that some parents and guardians have abdicated their parental responsibilities leaving their children at indecision positions.
Lenaremo said some parents believe that teachers in schools will solely straighten the moral development of children without their intervention, which is not the case.
The DCC noted that most indiscipline cases displayed by students in schools is a replica of how irresponsible their parents are at home.
Lenaremo insisted that it is the responsibility of parents to ensure their children at school respect teachers by adhering to school rules and regulations.
He revealed that frequent contact between parent and teacher is necessary for the excellent performance both morally and academically of their children.
Lenaremo agreed that it was the responsibility of the parents to ensure frequent contact with the child and teachers for a balanced child’s development.
“Consumption of drugs which mostly lead to unruly behavior among our young learners would be a gone case in schools if teachers and parents work together,” he said.
The DCC called on the parents to increase contact hours with their children while at home during the long holiday which commences next week.
He said it was important for the parents/guardians to design a program how their children will spend their long holiday responsibly.
Lenaremo suggested parents should involve their children in work or activities that can deter them from drugs involvement and risky sexual behaviour.
“Involving our children in work related activities while at home builds up their future responsible character,” he added.
Lenaremo however warned that police will arrest children under 18 years old at bars or other drinking joints during school days or holiday periods.
The DCC said the government will ensure no child’s life is ruined during holiday and asked the parents to fully embrace their parental responsibilities.
