Former Kakamega County Executive Committee member for Education Professor Joseph Ogonyo Indire has urged parents to value the education of their children.

Speaking during a fund drive in aid of Holly Family Musembe Secondary school in Chekalini ward, Lugari constituency Prof. Indire  expressed his disappointment with how a section of parents have failed to take  education of their children seriously, a situation he said would perpetuate ignorance and backwardness.

He said it was through education that the youths could make a meaningful contribution to the socio-economic progress of the society.

Prof. Indire said formal education is critical in the fight against poverty, disease and social ills like drug and substance abuse among the youths.

He said it’s high time parents took the educational pursuits of their children seriously adding that through education communities can make a meaningful contribution to the social-economic development of the Sub County, county and country at large.

Noting that basic education from primary to the secondary level is compulsory, Prof. Indire advised students to focus on their education and ensure they lay a strong foundation for prosperity and better life.

“If you see me standing before you it’s because I went to school, committed myself, worked well and that is why I am where I am. Education is an opener; it opens the way and equalizes people in the society. So if you want your future to open up well for you I think this opportunity you’ve been given by your parents to come to school please take great advantage of it and learn so that later in your life you may be a good citizen of this country,” said Prof. Indire.

Prof. Indire who has declared his interest in the Lugari parliamentary seat in the 2022 general elections, implored upon residents to support his bid promising to work closely with other stakeholders as an educationist to scale greater educational heights.

“For me education is very close to my heart. Long time ago when I was in school thinking of what career to take I sat down and came to a conclusion that for me number one is education, number two education, number three education and number last education and that’s why I am much concerned with our dwindling academic standards, we need to do something to improve on them,” concluded Prof. Indire.
