Lurambi MP Titus Khamala has said parliament has been compromised in the war against corruption, and leaders are now leaning on their party affiliations. The MP, who was speaking during an interview on West FM’s Crossfire, said politics has permeated the graft war. His sentiments come as Kenyans grapple a string of scandals, the latest being the KEMSA funds scandal, where ODM came under fire after the party called for a deep probe, and caution ,despite the facts laid out in the media.
He said parliament shouldn’t come under the influence of the executive, “Parliament should be an arm of government that is independent and it should do its tasks well.” He said the executive has resorted to intimidation and some MPs are being arrested over trumped up fake charges, “The war on graft shouldn’t be politicized,” he added.
Further, he said residents in the Western region will heavily support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report once there is an affirmation that the region’s economic and development are being sorted out, “Come and revive Mumias Sugar company first, then bring the BBI report, and we will be happy and rejoice.” He said the region’s economy is in a bad state, following the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that as a whole, Kenya needs an economic leader, not a political one.
