The parliamentary administration and national security committee led by chairperson and Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange on Saturday visited Trans Nzoia County on a fact finding mission on the state of the police force, their welfare and also to encourage them in their line of work.
Some of the challenges they face according to the committee include a lack of enough police vehicles, a lack of sufficient
uniforms, pyscho social challenges among others.
Koinange pointed out that several reforms have been achieved which include the merging of the AP and regular police adding that they’ve received positive review on their working relationship. However he acknowledged that some key steps and reforms haven’t been implemented yet, which include offering better mental and psychological support, better housing.
He called upon the public to support the police and urged the officers to up the efforts in fighting crime, which he stated, should also be a matter of concerted efforts from all Kenyans.
On the political front, he criticized the ongoing early campaigns and called on politicians to focus on developing the country instead of politicking, “If the Guinness Book of world records were to compile a research on active politicking today, I think Kenya will be in the top three,” said Koinange.
