A patient was shot dead at the Mwingi General Hospital at around 3a.m in the morning, less than six hours after he was admitted. In what was described as a movie-like incident, the patient who had been admitted with gunshot wounds was shot 17 times before the gunman ran away. Witnesses recall seeing three men standing outside the ward while the gunman shot the victim and later disappeared.
The victim, Ngandi Malia Musyemi, had been admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds. He told the police that he had been carjacked from Mwingi town on Wednesday and left for dead at Sosoma junction after being shot in the head and ribs.
A good Samaritan picked him up and took him to the Ukasi police station after which he was dropped off at the level 4 hospital. The police stated that they were yet to figure out the motive behind the shooting or the people behind it. Eastern head of DCI, Henry Ondiek, said a team had been sent to the area to probe the issue.
In a similar incident back in 2012, a survivor was shot dead in his bed at Makindu hospital in similar circumstances as he narrated his story to nurses and waited to be transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital. The patient had earlier survived a hacking incident in which his four colleagues were killed.
